Radix.
Regenerative. Immersive. Reciprocal.
A language education center rooted in the principles and practice of permaculture. Radix rethinks adult language education as something lived rather than lectured. Set within a food desert in a low-income neighborhood with a strong Spanish-speaking community, the project responds to limited ESL access and food insecurity by transforming the idea of the classroom into flexible, community-centered spaces organized around a courtyard inspired by Spanish plazas. Grounded in adult learning theory and permaculture principles, language is learned through gardening, shared meals, and public gatherings, where everyday interaction becomes the curriculum. Sustainable systems like rainwater collection and food production are intentionally visible, turning the building itself into a teaching tool. Through inclusive design strategies and adaptable, restorative interiors, Radix shows how interior architecture can nurture growth, connection, and long-term community resilience.
