Hotel Rahana.
Where every stay feels like home.
NEWH, Green Voice Design Competition Winner.
Hotel Rahana is located in Agra, India just off the main road and in close proximity to the Taj Mahal. The design integrates LEED and WELL standards, emphasizing biophilic principles and energy efficiency while honoring local cultural traditions and practices. Respect for heritage, environment, and community remains central to the overall design approach.
Masala.
One of Hotel Rahana’s standout features is its restaurant, Masala, offering a main dining room, semi-private seating, and an expansive bar with adjustable LED lighting. The warm, earth-toned color palette creates an inviting atmosphere, while sculptural columns along the bar subtly mimic the form and rhythm of trees, reinforcing the biophilic concept. A cultural dining space on the mezzanine—accessible by stair and elevator—adds an elevated and immersive experience.
Cultural Dining.
Hotel Rahana was developed through a collaborative design process, with key components such as the overall floor plan, construction documents, and courtyard details created as a team. Individual spaces, including the lobby and restaurant, were developed independently, allowing for focused design exploration within the larger unified concept.
Biophilic Design Principals.
Many of these principles are most evident in the open courtyard, which extends vertically through the three-story atrium and anchors the overall spatial experience.
The rooftop is designed as a landscaped nature walk for guests, creating a calm transition between indoor and outdoor spaces and incorporating an indoor–outdoor yoga studio. It also includes accessible prayer rooms to respectfully honor cultural traditions, especially considering that over 90% of visitors to Agra are domestic travelers.
